Hooksett School District Implements New Safety Technologies

The Hooksett School District is continually committed to the safety of all students. The school district has been proactive in its approach to school safety for the past several years in light of recent tragic events across the country involving schools. The school district has used a multi-faceted approach to address prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and response with regard to school-based emergencies.

The Hooksett School Board and Superintendent of Schools are excited to announce the installation of a Shooter Detection System (SDS) as a part of comprehensive security upgrades to secure schools against the active shooter threat. “The Shooter Detection System was founded with the singular focus to protect the public against the rising active shooter threat to our nation’s critical infrastructure, schools, and public venues. The Hooksett School Board and Superintendent selected the SDS due to its proven performance history at other schools across the country, its zero-false alert history and its proven, certified technology integrations with many schools’ current security technologies.

The Hooksett School District is the first school district in the State of New Hampshire to install a Shooter Detection System in all of its schools. The Shooter Detection System alerts staff and students of active shooting events in the school. The system also alerts emergency officials of an active shooting event. The SDS minimizes human error and maximizes response time for staff and students and emergency officials. In addition to the implementation of the SDS, the school district has collaborated with New Hampshire Department of Homeland Security, the Hooksett Police Department, and the Hooksett Fire Department to assess the safety needs of the schools along with providing feedback to enhance our emergency procedures. The school district has also trained all staff in first aid, CPR and emergency management practices including active shooter protocol. The school district has invested in video surveillance systems in each of its schools. This year, all schools and the SAU office will be outfitted with a walkie-talkie system that will enable communication across all buildings throughout the Hooksett School District.
