Fifth grade classrooms visited the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center on March 22. This visit added to student knowledge of space after reading selections in our Imagine It reading series called Our Corner of the Universe. Some fifth grade students completed “Mystery Science” missions before attending the planetarium trip. Why does the sun rise and set? and Why do stars change with the seasons? were a couple of mysteries that provided some clarity and ah-ha moments for students. The visit included a planetarium show called Tonight’s Sky which helped students locate constellations and planets that they might see in the February night sky and taught them some of the astronomy ideas of ancient people.
