“The Hour of Code” at HMS – December 8-14, 2014

During the week of December 8-14, 2014, an initiative called “The Hour of Code” will be presented as a whole school Tier 1 enrichment opportunity hosted by the Advancing Learning Programs. This will reach all 488 students at HMS, teaching them the basics of coding through a variety of interactive games. Our world is surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding technology. Our entire school, for a second year, is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we’re joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students! See http://hourofcode.com/us for additional details. We thank the classroom teachers for their support and flexibility to make this wonderful activity happen. A special thanks to our ALPS teacher Mrs. Overmyer for coordinating this outstanding event for our school.
